Trevor Brown

Elder

Trevor Brown is 58 years old. He lives in Bryanston and works at Deloitte, a professional services firm. He is married to Tracy and they have two adult children; a daughter, Jaclyn Norval or “Jax” (as she is more commonly called), married to Graham and a son, Cameron or “Cam”, who is married to Kirsti. He has 3 grandchildren; Mason, Gabriel and Ayden.

Trev became a Christian on 13 September 1970 at the age of 10, after listening to a message at the local Baptist church in England. His Dad helped him pray to become a Christian that evening and, since then, he has had a steady (with its ups and downs!) Christian walk.  He was very blessed to inherit a gospel legacy, with both sets of Grandparents being strong Christians of the Brethren denomination; his one Grandfather (“Tabernacle” Brown), was a missionary in Africa, planting churches, building schools and spreading the gospel to people who had never heard it before.  Trev’s father was born in the Congo (today DRC) and returned to study in England, where he married and had three sons.  When the family emigrated to South Africa in the seventies, they attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Florida Park, where Trevor and Tracy were later married.  This church planted a new church in Wilro Park with Trev and Tracy joining several other families as founder members, and Trev serving as its Treasurer for several years.

On returning back to Johannesburg after a brief work stint in East London, they visited BBC to get in touch with their roots – they have been attending ever since; for over twenty-five years.  Trev became the Treasurer of BBC in 1992 and served on the diaconate in that role for many years.   He was also very involved with the Music Ministry throughout the past twenty years and has led five Alpha courses in the past decade.  He was appointed as an Elder in 2004.

His hobbies include following the English Premier League (he has been a passionate Arsenal supporter for over 40 years), walking, enjoying good food and wine and travelling to different holiday destinations, his current favourite being Hermanus, in the Western Cape.
