In the sermon series “Simple” we spoke about how the understanding of purpose allows us to set proper priorities and to make Godly plans that move us towards that purpose. One of the ways that spoke about keeping our purpose in front of us was the selection of a “Life Verse”. We know that all Scripture is God-breathed (2 Tim 3:16) and so this isn’t an effort to place one verse as priority over the rest. We also believe that the Bible has a context and so this isn’t an attempt to pull a verse out of its biblical context in order to have it mean something that it was never meant to mean. Rather, it is a chance to commit a verse to memory and to put it in front of us so that we don’t stray from God has called us to do and we don’t forget who God is and what he has promised to us.
We have put together a sample list below, taken from a list put together by Bill Hybels in his book, “Simplify”. We have grouped them together in categories for your convenience. Feel free to look through for what you might need, or ask God to reveal another verse from Scripture for you. Why don’t you consider choosing a verse that you want to have in front of you as a mark on the horizon to keep you from purposeless living? His word is a light and a lamp (Psalm 119:1-5) and we hope and pray that it will light your way in the year ahead.
